Middle School Coaches

Sam Hanau has been coaching at Lakeshore Middle School since 2022, helping develop young wrestlers both on and off the mat. In addition to his role with the middle school program, Sam has coached Michigan West Wrestling Club since its inception in 2013 and continues to play a major role in advancing wrestling opportunities throughout Southwest Michigan.

Sam previously served as Director of High School Development for Michigan USA Wrestling from 2021–2025, where he helped lead Team Michigan’s 16U and Junior Men’s divisions at National Duals and Fargo. He has developed a year-round training system focused on building strong fundamentals, discipline, and a competitive mindset for wrestlers of all ages.

As an athlete, Sam was an NCAA Division II All-American at University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown, competing under legendary coach Pat Pecora, who became NCAA wrestling’s all-time winningest coach in 2020.

Outside of coaching, Sam is an Edward Jones Financial Advisor and owns a business in Berrien Springs.
 

Kyle Stampfly has been coaching at Lakeshore Middle School since 2024, continuing a strong family tradition within the program. A former standout wrestler at Lakeshore High School, Kyle was a 3-time State Qualifier known for his toughness, work ethic, and leadership on the mat.

After high school, Kyle continued his wrestling career at Southwestern Michigan College, where he became a JUCO National Qualifier. Wrestling and coaching have long been a part of the Stampfly family, as Kyle’s father, Leo Stampfly, served as the Lakeshore Middle School wrestling coach for more than 25 years. Kyle now carries on that legacy by helping develop the next generation of Lakeshore wrestlers.
